Convert physical measurements across metric and imperial systems in bulk

Convert numeric measurements across metric and imperial units (lbs to kg, miles to km).

🛡️ Your rows never leave your browser.
Why Onfyt: Automatically strips attached unit labels ('150 lbs' -> 68.04 kg) before converting, preventing spreadsheet formula errors.

How this tool works

Cross-border logistics, scientific research, and international e-commerce frequently require harmonizing measurements between imperial and metric standards. A warehouse manifest created in the United States records product weights in pounds (lbs) and package dimensions in inches, whereas customs clearance in the European Union or Kenya mandates kilograms (kg) and centimeters (cm). Converting units across thousands of rows in spreadsheets using ad-hoc multiplication formulas often introduces rounding drift or errors when cells contain unit text suffixes like '150 lbs' or '25 kg'. A formula like =A2*0.453592 throws a #VALUE! error the moment it hits a cell with text labels attached. DataFix extracts the numeric magnitude from cells even when unit symbols are embedded, applies high-precision conversion constants across weight, length, volume, temperature, and area dimensions, and allows you to round the results to your chosen decimal precision. You can replace the original column or generate a newly titled companion column (e.g. 'weight_kg').

Things that usually go wrong

  • The column must contain pure numbers — strip unit strings ('kg', 'mi') first using Find and Replace.
  • Temperature conversion uses a formula (not just multiplication) — Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin are all handled.

Edge cases we tested

🧪 Embedded unit labels in cells ('150 lbs', '25 kg')

Numeric portion extracted and converted without syntax errors.

🧪 Temperature conversions requiring offset math (°F to °C)

Applies exact formula ((°F - 32) * 5/9) rather than simple multiplier.

🧪 Non-numeric or null cells ('N/A', '')

Preserved cleanly as empty strings without breaking column conversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

What unit categories are supported?

Length (m, ft, mi, km), weight (kg, lb, oz, g, ton), temperature (C, F, K), volume (L, mL, gal, fl oz), area (m², ft², acre).

Can I convert currencies?

Currency rates change daily — this tool does not handle live FX conversion.

What precision is used for the conversion factors?

Conversion factors are stored to 10 significant figures. For example, 1 mile = 1.609344 km exactly. Results are not rounded unless you apply the Round Numbers tool afterwards.

Can I add a custom unit conversion factor?

Yes — enter a custom multiplier in 'Custom factor' mode. For example, converting 'lightyears' to km with factor 9.461e12.
