Convert between percentage strings and decimal fractions in CSV columns

Convert percentage strings to decimal fractions or decimal fractions to percentage strings in CSV columns.

🛡️ Your rows never leave your browser.
Why Onfyt: Detects which percentage representation is present (string, integer, or decimal) before converting—no manual mode selection needed.

How this tool works

Mixed percentage formats in the same dataset cause analysis errors: if some columns store percentages as '3.60%' (string) and others as 0.036 (decimal fraction), any formula that combines them produces wrong results. Standardizing to decimal fractions before analysis (or to display strings before reporting) is a standard data normalization step. DataFix handles three common representations: % suffix strings ('3.60%'), integer percentages (45), and decimal fractions (0.036), and converts between any two. Converting percentage strings (such as '12.5%') into numeric decimals (0.125) prepares financial ratios and discount percentages for direct mathematical computation. Converting percentage notations into decimal values prepares financial yields, discount rates, and tax metrics for mathematical calculation in SQL and statistical libraries. Our converter strips percentage signs and divides values by 100 with full floating-point accuracy. Converting percentages to decimals must handle varying notation formats, including trailing percentage symbols, parentheses for negative margins, and localized decimal commas, ensuring clean ingestion into mathematical libraries. Clean decimal outputs integrate seamlessly with business intelligence calculation engines, allowing analysts to aggregate margins and build charts without prior regex string cleaning. Converting percentage strings into decimal fractions prepares rates and discount ratios for mathematical calculations. Stripping percentage signs allows direct multiplication in financial models and SQL expressions. Automatic scale detection distinguishes between already-decimal fractions (0.15) and whole-number percentages (15%), preventing double-division errors during conversion. Negative percentage signs and accounting brackets are parsed cleanly without corrupting the underlying decimal magnitude. Clean converted fractions facilitate immediate statistical modeling and database aggregation in analytics warehouses.

Things that usually go wrong

  • '5%' converts to 0.05, not 5 — the percent sign means 'divide by 100'.
  • Values already in decimal form (0.05) will be divided by 100 again if you run the tool twice.

Edge cases we tested

🧪 Value '100%' (full rate)

Converts to 1.0.

🧪 Value '0.00%'

Converts to 0.0.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does '5%' become 0.05?

Percent means per-hundred. 5% = 5/100 = 0.05. Google Sheets and Excel both store percentages as decimals internally.

My column has mixed values: some are '3.60%' and some are '0.036'. What happens?

Values with a '%' suffix are divided by 100. Values without it are left unchanged.
