Extract the root domain from full URLs in a CSV column
Extract the root domain, subdomain, path, or protocol from full URL strings in a CSV column.
🛡️ Your rows never leave your browser.
Why Onfyt: Handles complex TLDs correctly: extracts 'solarkenya' from 'www.solarkenya.co.ke' (not 'solarkenya.co' which would be wrong)—using a TLD list, not a simple dot-split.
Interactive Sample Data
| company | website |

| Solar Kenya | https://www.solarkenya.co.ke/about |

How this tool works
When analyzing a list of company websites, extracting the root domain (solarkenya.co.ke) from full URLs (https://www.solarkenya.co.ke/about?utm_source=directory) enables grouping by company domain, identifying domains that appear multiple times, and cross-referencing against domain reputation databases.
DataFix extracts the hostname from the URL using standard URL parsing, then strips the 'www.' prefix to normalize variations (www.example.com → example.com). Optionally it strips country-code TLD to get the SLD only.
Extracting root hostnames and domain names from full web addresses enables vendor categorization, website traffic aggregation, and corporate account matching.
Extracting root domain names and hostnames from full web links enables vendor categorization, website traffic aggregation, and corporate account matching across analytics datasets.
Domain extraction parses full URLs and email addresses down to root hostnames and apex domains, stripping protocol prefixes, subdomains, and URL paths for vendor classification and account reconciliation. Normalized domain strings enable clean account deduplication and corporate hierarchy mapping without manual URL cleanup. Clean domain hostnames streamline organizational reporting, allowing marketers and engineers to aggregate web traffic trends accurately.
Extracting root domains from full URLs standardizes web addresses for vendor classification and account reconciliation across analytics platforms. Second-level domain recognition correctly handles composite country-code top-level domains like '.co.uk' and '.com.au', extracting the true corporate brand domain. Lowercasing extracted domain strings prevents duplicate entries caused by inconsistent URL casing in source logs. Clean root hostnames streamline organizational reporting and web traffic analysis across business intelligence tools.
Things that usually go wrong
- URLs without a scheme (missing 'https://') may not parse correctly — add the scheme with Add Prefix first.
- IP address URLs produce the IP as the 'domain'.
Edge cases we tested
🧪 URL with country+SLD TLD ('solarkenya.co.ke')
co.ke treated as two-part TLD; 'solarkenya' is the SLD.
🧪 URL without protocol ('example.com/page')
Protocol assumed https; hostname parsed correctly.
🧪 IP address as URL host ('http://192.168.1.1/api')
IP address returned as-is in domain column.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this extract only the apex domain (e.g. example.com) or the full hostname?
By default, the apex domain (e.g. 'example.com', not 'blog.example.com'). Toggle 'full hostname' for the subdomain too.
Are country-code TLDs handled?
Yes — 'company.co.uk' extracts 'company.co.uk' (not 'co.uk').
